Curt Fenslau - Fleet Owner, Erimusun Carriers
I was an O/O many years ago. One night, while out on the road, I had a bad injury. I was inspecting my equipment and thought I had parked on top of something. As I got closer, I realized it was a tire bulge. As I turned my head, it blew up in my face. This caused an internal head injury and took me out of the truck . This was a tremendous loss because all I had ever wanted to do was drive a truck, ever since I was a little kid. I was feeling depressed, with my trucks just sitting. Then, within 3 months of this incident, I lost my 37 year old brother to a heart attack. Honestly, at this point I didn’t care anymore. I was just living off my savings and what little insurance gave for disability. I went to visit my book keeper in late February, she told me you need to make a change in your life - either sell your 2 trucks or hire drivers and get them on the road. I still was in a slump until I realized MATS was soon coming up and I decided I’m going to go, just to see what’s new and to get out of the house. I am very glad I did because it made me realize how much I loved trucking! With all the excitement and vendors I spoke with, I returned home full of energy. Starting the next week, I began to turn wrenches and posted drivers wanted ads. I am now a small fleet owner of 9 trucks and I am now able to drive again. Now this may not be a huge success story, but this is my story. Pic is of me and my dad when I was a kid. He came out of retirement to help me. I’ll always remember all that he did and miss him every day.
